STAFF and students at Coleg Cambria Llysfasi helped rescue a young buzzard after it got into difficulties on the farm.

One of the farm workers realised the bird was in trouble as it got stuck in the slurry pit. They managed to get the bird out safely and took him to a local vet.

Members of staff from the veterinary surgery managed to give the bird a clean and thorough check before contacting Islwyn Jones, of Pen y Bryn Falconry, who took care of the young bird before releasing it back into the wild. The buzzard was released near where he was found at Llysfasi with the assistance of some animal care students who observed the bird fly happily to the nearest tree.

Kath Roberts, instructor in animal care, said: ‘’It was terrible seeing the young buzzard in such a state, we took him straight to the local vet where he was well looked after. It was great seeing him back here to be released back to the wild in a fit and healthy state.’

‘’The buzzard was lucky that he was spotted at the farm, the vet did a really good job of cleaning and getting him back to health’’ added Islwyn Jones of Pen y Bryn Falconry

‘’It was a great feeling seeing the bird being released back to where he belongs.’’
