Dr Paul Evans has been confirmed as the new head of Denbigh High School.
Dr Evans, who has been in the role of acting headteacher since last November, has worked at the school for 13 years.
During his time at Denbigh High he has held several senior management posts including head of history, faculty leader for humanities, associate assistant head, assistant head, and most recently, acting headteacher.
Originally from Carmel, Dr Evans previously worked at Ysgol Brynhyfryd for twenty years as a history teacher as well as being the exams officer.
His interest and passion for history is renowned and he has recently finished writing his 29th textbook and revision guide on the subject for the WJEC (Welsh Joint Education Committee) examination board.
Taking over the helm at the school, Dr Evans said: “'I am absolutely delighted at being appointed as the new headteacher for Denbigh High School. I have served the school in several capacities over the past 13 years and have a deep empathy with the establishment, its staff and its pupils.
“My immediate priority will be to push forward with our Action Plan to deliver solid evidence that we have met the Estyn Recommendations for Improvement.
“Looking to the future, my aim is to ensure that the school develops even more strongly as a centre to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum which enables our learners to maximise their potential and leave with the skills to enable them to live their dream and succeed in their career path. I will strive to ensure that we deliver on our motto: Succeeding together, progressing with pride, for excellence in education. Our young people deserve nothing less.”
Kate Sutherland, chair of governors, said: “I am delighted with the appointment of Dr Evans as headteacher and the governing body will work closely with him to ensure that the school continues to progress for the benefit of all of the pupils.”
