A RUTHIN  woman has turned her life around by losing more than nine stone in weight.

Mandy Shipley, 45, decided to lose weight after she began to experience health problems such as breathlessness and heart pains on exertion. After becoming concerned for her well being and wanting to be healthy for her own sake and the sake of her 10-year-old son, she decided to embark on a weight loss program.

“I had always been overweight, ever since I was three," said Mandy.

“I decided I needed to do something about it and I joined Slimming World on June 26, 2015.

“My starting weight was 20 stone 8.5lbs -and I am now 11 stone 6lbs.

“I'm really pleased with how I've done and I feel much, much better.

“I don't really have a target weight but I'll carry on for the time being.”

Mandy attributes much of her success to her consultant at Ruthin Slimming World, Tracy Cawthray.

Tracy said: “I am so proud of Mandy, the whole group at Slimming World is.

“She's a real inspiration. Everyone talks about how well she's done, she is absolutely amazing.

“She won the Greatest Loser competition that we have every year, and deservedly so. She also won the Woman of the Year competition, voted for by the other members.

“She is so consistent; she really is great.”

Mandy enjoys attending the weekly meetings at the group for support and says she couldn’t have done it without Tracy. She added: "Tracy has been my rock. She has helped me so much.

“The hardest part of my weight loss journey was walking through those doors but I am really glad I did because  I now have a brighter and happier future. The support I get in group is amazing and Tracy has been exceptional.”

Mandy has adapted to her new lifestyle much more easily than she thought.

“The worst part of the diet was probably the first week getting used to it, but I was really shocked how easy it is to follow the plan. I never go hungry.  I eat more than I used to. It’s just that I eat the right things now,” she added.

“I am always walking  too, I'm never still really and I also do some tone up exercises.

“I am much more confident than I was. After always being overweight I never thought I’d be where I am now. I’m proud of myself.

“I would recommend to anyone who is waiting to walk through those doors take the leap forward and your confidence will grow as the weight comes off.

“I don't miss my old eating habits at all, or my old lifestyle.”
