CAMPAIGNERS have won their case to stop cuts to free school transport.
Parents from Ysgol Brynhyfryd, Ruthin who live in the Bryneglwys area, 12 miles from the school, were previously provided with a free taxi service to the school bus pick-up point as the route was deemed too hazardous for pupils to walk.
But Denbighshire Council cut its free taxi service, used by more than 260 pupils from a variety of schools, to save costs, with parents expected to find transport themselves.
As a result, two mothers, Glenda Coleman and Rachel Owen, instructed Michael Imperato, partner at Watkins and Gunn Solicitors and an expert in administrative and public law, to help fight the council’s decision.
A settlement was reached a week before the trial after it was accepted by the council that it has a duty to provide transport to the school pick-up point where no safe walking route is available.
