THE riverside grounds of a museum are to become a centre for outdoor activities under a newly appointed events manager.
The Cae Dai 50s museum, in Denbigh, is attached to land stretching over 60 acres, belonging to museum owner Sparrow Harrison who is hoping to share the space with families and nature lovers.
Mr Harrison has appointed, Craig Winter, head coach at Denbigh Boxing Club, as outdoor security and events manager to carry out the organisation of facilities and activities for the Cae Dai Estate.
Mr Harrison, who founded the museum in the early 1990s, said: “I think it’s great that people get out to the countryside
"I am very fortunate to have the place and it would be great for people to come and enjoy it.”
This follows an incident last month in which a bridge on the museum grounds was attacked by a group of young vandals and a number of planks ripped from its deck.
Mr Sparrow, who founded the Cae Dai Trust, a charity that helps economically and socially disadvantaged children, said: “We hope that people will use the resources respectfully and that the environment, with the help of Craig, will encourage people to act that way.”
Mr Winter said: “I have known Sparrow for a long time, we have a very good relationship. He is a highly respected person who does a lot for good causes.
“We have had an initial idea for a ‘pet corner’, a fenced off area that will be child-friendly, with a grassy area nearby for parents to relax and enjoy the summer sunshine.
“There are a number legalities we have to get through so this will not happen overnight.
“Sparrow and I are hoping that the community will get involved and help plan activities and that families and children will be able to enjoy the countryside the estate has to offer.”
Features of the Cae Dai Estate include woodland, a river, pond, an array of birdlife and an 800-year-old oak tree.
Mr Winter said: “Hopefully use of the area will also increase public access of the Cae Dai 50s museum that has a number of marvellous displays, as well as encourage people to come along to the boxing club.
Mr Winter is currently calling for volunteers to get involved in helping to build a pet corner on the estate.
