A FIVE-GOAL thriller involving legends from the footballing world entertained hundreds of spectators in the Vale of Clwyd over the weekend.
On Friday evening, a Ruthin Town XI took on Manchester United Legends in a fundraising encounter.
Despite goals from Chris Hardy and Llyr Morris, it was the Manchester United side who took home the trophy with a 3-2 triumph.
Ruthin Town vice-chairman Andy Edwards said: "We don't know, but we think probably about 600-650 attended.
"We are really pleased with that level of turnout.
"It was all family orientated and that's been difficult to achieve with the football in the past.
"It's great that we are doing more for families.
"Manchester United were just fantastic and really humble.
"It was like they were appreciating what we were doing for them."
Afterwards in the clubhouse, a question-and-answer event was held in the company of former Manchester United players Denis Irwin, Mickey Thomas and Russell Beardsmore.
"It was brilliant and the room had more than enough chances to ask a question," added Edwards.
In addition, an auction of memorabilia raised £2,600 while unofficially, the whole night raised in the region of £6,500.
This will be used by the Ruthin Memorial Playing Fields Association to improve, upgrade and revamp the facilities in the clubhouse.
Edwards added: "We want to make it better for customers and try and attract different people.
"I want to say a huge thank-you to Jamie Lewis and Manchester United."
Ruthin are on the hunt for any potential sponsors ahead of the new season.
