A CONCERT has been organised to pay tribute to father of a Hollywood star and a popular teacher.
Ruthin Festival will host the event on Monday, June 24 to remember Eirwyn Evans, the father of Hollywood star Rhys Ifans, who died on New Year’s Eve 2018.
When news of his death broke, hundreds of warm tributes flooded in for the former teacher by friends and former pupils, with many describing him as a true gentleman and an inspiration.
Eirwyn Evans was married to Beti-Wyn, a nursery school teacher, and was dad to two sons, Rhys and Llyr.
Following the birth of their sons in Pembrokeshire, the family moved to Ruthin.
Eirwyn was very active in the local community, including being a committee member of the Ruthin Festival, chairman of the Theatr John Ambrose committee for many years, as well as an active member of the congregation at Capel Pendref in Ruthin.
He played a major part in organising the productions of the Vale of Clwyd Youth Drama group, as well as playing an active part in many other local community groups.
The concert includes performances from a wide range of artists from the Ruthin area, including Cor Cytgan Clwyd, Ysgol Pen Barras, Ruthin Drama Group, Ysgol Brynhyfryd, Meibion Marchan, the Indigo group and Mali Elwy.
It is being held at Theatre John Ambrose, with the proceeds going towards the Ruthin appeal for the 2020 Denbighshire Urdd Eisteddfod.
The concert starts at 7pm and tickets are available through Siop Elfair on 01824 702575.
