CHOCOLATE bars designed by youngsters at a primary school near Ruthin are now on display at the Denbigh Chocolate Shop.
Year two and three pupils from Ysgol Gellifor have been busy recently - investigating different ways of making Willy Wonka style chocolate before going on to have a go themselves using different ingredients.
The youngsters were also given the opportunity to create their own colourful packaging to wrap around their finished products - which were then judged by Annie and Paul Bryan, owners of the Denbigh Chocolate Shop.
As a result of their successful creative sessions, their chocolates have now gone on display on a shelf at the shop.
Ysgol Gellifor assistant headteacher Mandy Brookes-Jones said: “Annie and Paul Bryan from the Denbigh Chocolate Shop first came to taste the children’s chocolate bars at the sessions we held in school in May.
“The pupils really put a lot of effort into creating their products and packaging and the judges were really impressed by them.”
“They were so impressed in fact that they asked the children to make some more of their chocolates so that they could be sold at the Denbigh Chocolate Shop."
Emelia Shenton and Darcy Jones both received a chocolate mobile phone as a reward for creating the best chocolates during the workshops at Gellifor. All the other children were handed gift bags from the Denbigh Chocolate Shop.
Emelia joined Ethan Mould, Harry Luhde-Furgusson, and Catrin Kneale, alongside Mrs Brookes-Jones at the Chocolate Shop last week to have a look at their creations which have been placed on the shelves there.
During the school’s Finance Week, Year two pupils worked hard on their mathematical skills in order to create a chocolate bar within their given budget.
“They researched popular choices and worked out a profit and designed their own wrappers,” Mrs Brookes-Jones added.
“The chocolate bars are currently being sold in the Chocolate Shop in Denbigh and have gone down a storm. If you fancy trying an Altered Oreo, a Triple Choccy Woccy Woo or a Caramel Delight pop into the Chocolate Shop before they all go!”
The next interesting topic to be covered by the Gellifor pupils over the coming weeks is ‘Robots’.
