THE journey continues for a talented Vale of Clwyd sportsman.
Professional boxer Siôn Yaxley, from Pwllglas, was in action last Friday, July 26 at the Village Hotel, in Bury.
In only his second professional bout, Yaxley stood strong against his opponent, Latvian Kristaps Zulgis, which was deemed as his banana skin bout.
A former Welsh ABA champion, Yaxley made light work and controlled the four-round contest.
Yaxley eventually won comfortably on points.
He turned professional last year and signed a three-year contract with Chris Sanigar in Bristol.
Siôn was a latecomer to the fight game.
He laced up the gloves for the first time aged 14 before making quick progress and going on to win two novice titles, one youth championship, the Welsh title at senior level and a silver medal at the prestigious Tammer European Boxing Tournament in 2016.
He was narrowly pipped to a place on Wales’ boxing squad for the Commonwealth Games in Australia last year.
Siôn is grateful to his generous sponsors: Shorecliffe Training Ltd; Emyr Evans a'i Gwmni; Edwards Bros Roofing; R M Jones Joinery; Boyns Info Systems; Atebol & One47; trainer Wesley Jones (Dyffryn ABC); his supporters and promoter Chris Sanigar.
Yaxley's next outing will be in Swansea during early September.
