MEMORIES of the National Eisteddfod are taking centre stage on this week's bygones page.
Sheena Ireland nee Williams, now of Telford but formerly of Ruthin, has been sharing her memories of the 1973 National Eisteddfod.
"My late father was J B Williams and he was the treasurer for the Eisteddfod," she said.
"He was the former bank manager of Midland Bank and he retired in 1972.
"I have got a picture of the committee that was taken and I've still got his badge."
Remembering the Eisteddfod, Sheena added: "The weather was atrocious.
"There was a Chinese man and his family who came one day.
"Somebody went and explained how much it was for OAPs, children and adults.
"But he turned around in Welsh and said "I don't know what the fuss is about - I've come from Tiger Bay in Cardiff!".
Sheena and her mother Estelle Williams helped out behind the scenes with the Eisteddfod.
In his notes in the official programme for the Eisteddfod, executive committee chairman D E Alun Jones wrote: "It is with pride and immense satisfaction that we who have carried - and enjoyed - this responsibility of preparing for the 1973 Eisteddfod now welcome it to the Vale of Clwyd.
"We also extend a very warm welcome to our many fellow Welshmen and Welshwomen who will be here to enjoy it with us."
