RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 1,587 prime hoggets to 262.5ppk / £130; 361 cull ewes and rams to £150 and four prime heifers to 244ppk / £1,181.90.

Seasonal numbers of prime hoggets resulted in an overall average of £2.25ppk, with H L Griffiths Ty Isa, Derwen hitting the top ppk with 40kg lambs making £2.62/kilo.
T A Roberts, Fach Gau’r 68kg lambs topped the sale at £130/head.
More lambs are required to meet a terrific weekly demand.

BRYNCIR Auction reports an entry of 921 hoggets and Cull ewes, and 12 OTM

Hoggets and cull ewes are still reaching peak prices, although averages were back slightly during the week due to the majority of sheep forward being hardy bred.

Old season lambs:
An increased entry of 812 lambs achieved a very pleasing SQQ of 201ppk.
Light av £1.89; Standards av £2.017; Mediums av £2.045; Heavies av £2.013; Over weights av £1.903.
The top price went to H Jones a’i Gwmni for a 52kg lamb achieving £107, with Nantclwyd Farms following closely with a 47kg lamb at £106.
Top price per kilo was a 40kg at 238ppk to R Howatson and a 45.5kg lamb at 235ppk to the same owner.

THERE was an excellent entry of 152 store cattle and breeding cows.
A full line-up of buyers ensured an outstanding trade for all types and ages.
The best strong steers to £1,165 from J Hughes, Bryn Derwen and heifers to £1,170 from JG & IML Evans, Ty Cerrig, Rhydymain.
A very strong trade for younger steers saw a 12 month old Char reach £1,005 from E W Owen, Llecheiddior Ganol, with 10m Char from A W Hughes, Bryn Hudfa selling to £940.
A good trade for cows and calves, with the best to £1,340 from A Lewis, Ty
Newydd Morfa.

Less calves forward resulted in more customers than calves having a positive effect on trade, especially on the younger second quality types.
Top price of the day went to Marian Mawr for a four-week-old Blue bull, with another achieving £270.
Best Blue heifers were well over £200.
A 4 week old Lim bull to £220, with heifers to £180.
A 3 week old Aberdeen Angus bull to £150, with heifers to £100.
Stirks:
Three weanlings forward, with more required to meet the continued demand.
A 10 month old Blue bullock to £670, with heifers to £580.
A 7 month Hereford bullock to £500, with Hereford heifers to £430.
Four month old Lim heifers to £365, with younger Aberdeen Angus to £300.

TRADE for store cattle and stirks was on fire!
There was very strong demand for all types.
Dairy demand was still good and inline, with more cows forward during the week.
A nice entry of calves again, with trade similar to previous weeks and remaining firm, although it was hard to follow at times.
