A SUPREMELY talented harpist will start the New Year with a solo performance with Rhyl Music Club.
Audiences from far and wide are expected to tune in to see Bethan Griffiths, from Mold, recite classical and folk songs on the national strings of Wales.
Her set includes John Parry’s Sonata No.3, Britten’s Suite for Harp, Parish Alvars’ Introduction Cadenza and Rondo, Scarlatti’s Sonata K27 and a list of folk tunes.
It is the first of six free online performances planned by Rhyl Music Club instead of its International Concert series, which would have taken place at Rhyl Town Hall.
Mrs Griffiths graduated at the Royal College of Music with first class honours in 2017 before receiving a Master of Performance with Distinction and the prestigious Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother Rose Bowl award.
She has performed in orchestras across the UK with conductors such as Bernard Haitink and at venues including Washington DC.
David Birch, chairman of Rhyl Music Club, said: “This time last year no-one would have dreamt that we would be producing concerts on the internet instead of in Rhyl Town Hall but we are glad we’ve been able to do so in these troubled times for two main reasons: continuing to provide the benefits and pleasure that music gives and supporting the financially hard-hit musicians.
“Although I’m acutely aware that a number of our regular members are unable to access the online concerts, one compensation is that they are being watched by a worldwide audience. We have had messages of appreciation from viewers in Switzerland, the USA and Australia.”
The recital takes place from 7.30pm-8.30pm on Wednesday, January 13 via www.rhylmusic.com
