A YOUNG girl from Pwllglas has raised more than £550 for a good cause, having been inspired by NHS workers during the Coronavirus pandemic.

On Saturday, March 20, nine-year-old Maisy Williams will be dancing non-stop for two hours in aid of the Awyr Las charity.

The Ysgol Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd pupil has already raised £559 (correct at time of writing) ahead of taking part in her danceathon - which will be live-streamed through Facebook.

Mum Katy Williams says Maisy was inspired to raise money for the cause by the good work being done by NHS workers throughout the Coronavirus pandemic.

And, as she does ballet, modern, tap and jazz with the North Wales School of Dancing (NWSD), a danceathon to support the charity just made sense.

Katy said: "Maisy and her twin brother Morgan have been inspired by our NHS heroes since the pandemic began and last summer they did various shows and sold cakes to raise money - raising £15.

"Maisy wanted to see if she could increase that to around £50 and got to thinking about how she could. She decided on a danceathon because her dance classes at NWSD have kept her sane through both lockdowns and she’s used dance to fill her time.

"She’s incredibly determined and full of energy and we’re so proud of her for coming up with this idea. Morgan has donated his share of last summer’s efforts to her danceathon so we’re incredibly proud of them both."

The Awyr Las charity Maisy is supporting is a North Wales NHS charity, providing enhanced services over and above what the NHS funds.

Gifts from the public make a huge difference to the care and treatment that our dedicated NHS staff are able to provide.
