A LLANGOLLEN woman has spoken of her pride after breaking three Welsh records and earning the title of Wales' Strongest Woman.
While most of the country was basking in the sunshine last month 16 competitors from across Wales met in Swansea to fight it out in the Wales Strongest Woman Final.
In the event ran by Rhiannon Lovelace (World’s Strongest Woman, 2018), entrants competed in a series of strength events in lightweight, middleweight, and heavyweight divisions.
Only one from each could be victorious and this time it was mum-of-two Jemma Stubbs from Llangollen who was crowned as the middleweight Wales Strongest Woman, breaking three Welsh records along the way.
Jemma started strong with a 210kg deadlift, breaking the Welsh record by 17.5kg. She then went from strength to strength setting a new Welsh record for the axle clean and press before moving on to take wins for both the yoke and sandbags and the farmers carriers and frame events. Jemma was not finished though, going on to lift a 115kg Atlas Stone: not only winning the event but taking the Welsh record too.
When not training four days a week, Jemma can be found in her gym Stubbs Fitness on George Street, Llangollen training others.
She said: "I’m a huge advocate of empowering people to take control of their own fitness journey. It should be fun and something you enjoy rather than dread. I am living proof of what you can achieve if you work hard and don’t give up on your dreams."
The dream is set to continue as despite having only starting weightlifting 4 years ago, she already has her sights set on Britain’s Strongest Woman in September.
She added: "It looks like it’s going to be such a great event and I can’t wait to go along to represent Wales and my hometown Llangollen. Support for female strength sports is on the rise and I am so excited to be a part of that movement. So, if you are free on September 19th then why not get your pompoms out and meet me in Doncaster, I could use all the support I can get."
Tickets for Britain’s Strongest Woman are on sale now.
