A MAN who was caught while over the limit for two drugs and without proper vehicle documentation has been handed almost £1,000 in fines.
Konrad Daszkowski, of Maple Avenue in Oswestry, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Friday.
The 21-year-old admitted that on February 28 at Wrexham, he drove a motor vehicle while over the limit for cannabis and benzoylecgonine, without insurance or a valid test certificate and otherwise than in accordance with a license.
He was found to have 4.4 microgrammes of cannabis per litre of blood (the limit being 2) and 549 microgrammes of benzoylecgonine (the limit being 50).
Justin Espie, prosecuting, told the court that police saw Daszkowski driving a Rover vehicle on the A483 and became concerned about the manner of his driving.
He was slowing and applying brakes, but the rear light was failing to illuminate - so they stopped him.
They discovered he didn't have valid documentation for the vehicle and a drugs swab returned positive readings for the two illicit substances.
Melissa Griffiths, defending, said: "He has been living in the UK for 17 or 18 years and came from Poland with his parents.
"He works permanent nights for a firm in Bala and he knows he will be disqualified but he gets a lift, so he'll be able to carry on his job.
"He tells me he'd only just purchased that vehicle on the day and he has now relinquished ownership of it.
"He said he no longer takes cocaine but he does smoke cannabis from time to time.
"He very much regrets what has happened and was completely cooperative with the police."
Daszkowski received fines totalling £993 and was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £94, as well as £85 costs.
He was disqualified from driving for two years.
