RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of prime lambs to £145 / 317.1ppk and ewes to £169.

Prime lambs (auctioneer - Elfor Morris):

A total of 2,194 lambs were forward and what a trade!

An SQQ of 260.1ppk with an overall average of 257ppk.

Medium weight lambs on fire, 1068 at 263ppk.

Standards and heavies both returning an average of 255ppk with very few lights at 230ppk.

A terrific show of lambs presented.

THE sale saw 4,207 prime lambs, cull ewes and prime cattle.

Prime lambs sold to £153/head and 392p/kg.

A total of 45 pens of prime lambs sold to 300p/kg+, while cull ewes sold to £160/head. 74 prime cattle averaged 265.63p/kg.

Prime cattle sold to 318p/kg and to £2022.40/head.

As expected, less numbers were about with a show of 187 forward.

Trade was harder on the week and going to fewer homes - the best cattle nevertheless were still very well sold.

As with previous weeks, weanlings remained a strong trade.

Top price went to G I Jones, Geufron Fawr for an 8 month old Lim bullock at £785.

Other prices: 11 month BB bullock £685; 14 month British Friesian bullocks £510; 6 month Aberdeen Angus heifer £495; 5 month Hereford bullock £400.

Monthly dairy sale (auctioneer - Dafydd Parry):

Trade was on fire, with everyone commenting how dear the heifers looked.

More cattle are required for the next sale in order to meet the current strong demand.
