RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 2,381 prime lambs to £153 / 328.6ppk and 463 ewes to £156.
Prime lambs (auctioneer - Elfor Morris).
A total of 2,377 lambs forward with trade stronger on the week again.
The overall average was 273ppk, with an SQQ of 275ppk.
A tremendous show of 1,161 medium weight (43kg) lambs achieved a blistering 278ppk or £119.90 per head, followed closely by the standard and heavies in the early 270ppk range.
More of those heavy lambs breaking the £140-plus mark with plenty of the top end over £3 per kilo.

An excellent trade held firm with an SQQ of 259.5ppk.
Average weight of 36.6kg and £97 average.

Plenty of interest in the cull ewes department with meatier ewes remaining the order of the day.
Well bred grazing ewes were also a firm trade.

A stray Welsh ram donated by G & D Jones, Maen Gwyn, sold to £60 and was purchased by Ieuan Evans.

A TOTAL of 3,757 prime lambs, cull ewes and prime cattle were forward.
Prime lambs sold to £154/head and to 360p/kg.
Meanwhile, 34 pens of prime lambs sold 300p/kg+, with 46 pens of prime lambs selling £140/head+.
Cull ewes sold to £170/head and prime cattle sold to 305p/kg.

Top price in the lump was achieved by A Williams, Ysgellog who sold a 700kg Charolais X steer at 263p/kg for £1841/head.

Numbers continue to come in well in November with a show of 123 store cattle forward.
Trade was very similar on the week, with quality a premium, and warm cattle also created more competition.
A total of 53 steers forward averaged £1109.58.
Top price went to C M Owen, Rhos Isa achieving £1,380 for a 25 month Lim.

Cows and calves (auctioneer - Dafydd Parry):
The fortnightly breeding cattle sale attracted plenty of interest.
Nine cows and calves were forward with the majority being aged cows.
Aged cows:
BB cows with Charolais calves at foot sold to £1,450, with others to £1,120 and £1,070.
First calver BB with a Lim calf at foot sold to £1,400 twice.
The next breeding sale on December 2 with entries now invited.
Calves (auctioneer - Dafydd Parry):
A strong demand on the top end calves, especially on the bulls.
More selective purchasing for those younger types.
Top price went to P & L Jones, Gables selling a Lim heifer to £370.
Other prices: Lim bulls to £330; Sim bull to £290; AA bull to £240; BB heifer to £250; Flek bull to £135.
Weanlings (auctioneer - Dafydd Parry):
Weanlings looked very dear, with plenty of buyers about for all types.
Once again, those older cattle were hitting a premium.
Top price went to J S Davies, Derwen Deg selling a 7 month Lim bull to £910 and 6 month old bulls to £810.
Other prices: 15 month old Lim bullocks to £665; 8 month old BB bullocks to £580 with heifers to £530; 10 month old BB bullocks to £835; 10 month old HF bullock to £560; 5 month old Lim bullock to £480; 5 month old Saler bullock to £755.

Another good entry of 1,736 store lambs and probably getting dearer week-on-week.
Heavier short-keep lambs either side of £105, with framie, leaner lambs looking well sold from £85-£100.
Longer keep lambs from £65-£80.
Welsh from £35 to £68, with 584 forward to an average of £46 per head.
