IN a successful Covid-19 regulated event, live theatre has been enjoyed at a Vale of Clwyd venue.

Dawel Nos (Silent Night), by Theatr Bara Caws, was staged at Denbigh Rugby Club, thanks to a huge team effort from cast members, the Menter Iaith Sir Ddinbych organising committee, the rugby club and the public.

“We are eternally grateful to everyone involved for ensuring the 'show went on',” said Ruth Williams, from Menter Iaith Sir Ddinbych, the charity Welsh Language Initiative organisation based in Denbigh.

“It was a highly successful evening, albeit these last minute extra Covid measures were introduced and Cwmni Theatr Bara Caws was, as usual, a barrel of laughs.

"We were so keen to ensure live Welsh theatre was performed in Denbighshire again but at the same time reduce any risk involved with Covid-19.

"A big thank-you to everyone involved for making the evening a success.”

Night Out, an Arts Council of Wales scheme that supports venues, financially and in an advisory capacity supported the event at Denbigh and it was instrumental in raising Menter Iaith’s confidence in bringing live theatre back to the community, since the pandemic hit Wales.

They have also worked with Menter Iaith to support local community groups and volunteers understand what is possible, through this scheme.

Vale of Clwyd actor and director Iwan Charles, who was bought up in Llanrhaeadr, was delighted to bring the show back to his home turf, as Bara Caws toured North Wales in the run up to Christmas.

Another two cast members are also originally from the area, Llyr Evans and Carys Gwilym.

“It’s always a hoot coming back home to perform, albeit it’s usually where I am most nervous," said Iwan.

"After all, family and friends are probably our biggest critics, as performers.

"But I always get a lot of support and love the response we get at Clwb Rygbi Dinbych.

“The show takes a tongue in cheek look at some current topics, is full of puns, irony and satirical characters, and we’ve all thoroughly enjoyed entertaining audiences across north Wales.

"We’re doing what we love!

“Of course, Covid has bought with it challenges, but we’ve had great support from all venues, and Dinbych is no different to other locations in that respect.

"Diolch to the team at Menter Iaith Sir Ddinbych for making the Vale of Clwyd a great spot to perform, yet again.”

Menter Iaith Sir Ddinbych is always looking for opportunities to support local communities to stage local Welsh language events and activities, live or on-line.

“We’d urge any community groups thinking of bringing an event to their locality to get in touch with us," added Ruth Williams.

"It’s part of our work in promoting the Welsh language, culture and heritage of Wales to audiences in Denbighshire, and we would certainly welcome opportunities and ideas.

“We’d like to thank everyone for their support to Menter Iaith throughout the year.

"And we wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Christmas and New Year.”
