A WELL-ESTABLISHED Vale of Clwyd club is looking forward to returning to action.
Going strong for over half-a-century, Denbigh Floral Art Club is preparing to host its annual meeting later this month.
Club secretary Jenny Williams said: "During the past two years we have managed to hold three demonstrations which, under the circumstances, were well attended.
"But now that the Covid rules have been relaxed we are starting again, hopefully with no more disruption."
The AGM will take place at a new venue for the club.
It will be held at the Plas Pigot Country Club on February 15 (7.30pm).
"Last year would have been our Emerald (55-year) anniversary so at our AGM we are having a celebration cake with light refreshments, and a cup of tea/coffee," added Jenny.
"The first demonstration of the year is on March 1 at the Plas Pigot Country Club with Carron White, the area vice-chairman, from Anglesey, entitled 'I Have a Ticket'.
"Do please come along and join us for a relaxing evening at either of the above occasions, you will be very welcome."
The Denbighshire Free Press played a minor role in the formation of the club during the height of Beatlemania.
"In 1966 an advertisement was placed in the Free Press to see if there was any interest in forming a flower club in Denbigh," said Jenny.
"The subsequent meeting was very well attended and it was decided to go ahead, and Denbigh Floral Art Club was born.
"The Denbigh Flower Show donated the sum of £25 to start the club with Lady Williams becoming the first chairman.
"The first demonstration was given by Mr M Davies and was very much enjoyed by the members and the arrangements were then raffled, with everyone agreeing that it was a very relaxing evening.
"Over the years the club has arranged trips to many places, such as gardens, flower shows and National Trust properties, and has also organised day schools to teach flower arranging to members who wished to learn the basics to get started.
"The club has entered many floats in the Denbigh Carnival decorated with fresh flowers and won the cup for the best float on several occasions. Over the years thousands of pounds have been raised for local charities through coffee mornings and car boot sales.
"The club has been running for over 55 years now and is still going strong.
"We still have two founder members, Gwyneth Parry and Betty Parker who joined in 1967."
