THE North East Wales Search and Rescue (NEWSAR) team helped save a man in 'distress' in the Llangollen area over the weekend.
On the evening of Saturday, February 5, the 'well-prepared' walker had got into trouble following an 'unlucky' equipment failure which resulted in him having to walk in the dark.
NEWSAR says its volunteers helped North Wales Police track the man down and bring him to safety after he had been forced to walk in the dark.
A statement from the team read: "North Wales Police asked us to assist a well-prepared walker on the moors north east of Llangollen. He was in distress due to the severe weather combined with some unlucky equipment failure that resulted in him having to walk in the dark.
"Team members and vehicles were prepared to deploy, while our Incident Commander tried to talk the walker down with some phone directions.
"Fortunately after several calls over the space of an hour the walker was able to reach the Panorama road and was collected by a family member. The rest of the team then stood down."
