RUTHIN Farmers Auction reports sales of 838 prime hoggets to £127 / 295ppk and 370 ewes to £190.
Prime hoggs (auctioneer - Rich Lloyd):
Another good show of hoggets for the time of year with an entry of 838 and certainly a brisker trade.
A Friday SQQ of 264 and overall average of 260.6p, unfortunately not a hogget reaching the £3ppk mark but a brisker trade on everything.

A total of 370 ewes and rams were forward, mostly hill bred ewes in with the odd stronger pen of ewes.
Overall average £77.61.
Top price went to Ela Evans, Bodtegir for a Texel ewe making £190.

St Asaph livestock market - March 19
FORWARD on the day were 262 store lambs, cull ewes, couples and pet lambs.
A total of 210 store lambs sold to £102/head or 250p/kg, with an average of 213.56p/kg.
Meanwhile, 27 cull ewes and rams were sold.
Ewes sold to £75/head, with an average of £51.80/head, while rams sold to £101/head. Average £51.50/head.
A total of 16 couples sold to £72.50/life, with an average of £70.42/life, while nine pet lambs sold to £10.
Store lambs (210): Overall average 213.56p/kg.
Super Lights sold to 193p/kg or £44.50/head. Average - 189.83p/kg
Lights sold to 239p/kg or £73/head. Average - 218.74p/kg.
Standards sold to 250p/kg or £92/head. Average - 230.92p/kg.
Mediums sold to 217p/kg or £90/head. Average - 216.87p/kg.
Heavies sold to 222p/kg or £102/head. Average - 211.46p/kg.

RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 132 heifers to £1,430; 137 steers to £1,885; 73 calves to £390; 27 stirks to £880; 27 OTMs to £1,763.30 / 250ppk; 268 store lambs to £117; 32 in-lamb ewes to £95; 100 ewes and lambs to £258, and 32 pet lambs to £31.
Store cattle (auctioneer - Rich Lloyd):
An increased entry on the year with 294 store cattle forward at the spring catalogue sale of store cattle, with plenty of variety on offer meeting a ringside full of keen purchasers with someone for everything.
Buyers came from near and far, and it was a buoyant trade from start to finish.
Heifers sold to £1,430 and steers sold to £1,885, with an overall average of £1,110.81.

Top prices of the day went to A Williams, Fron Dro for 2 Lim Hfrs (23 month) at £1,430 followed by two 23 months at £1,415.
18 month Lim to £1,365; 22 month Char to £1,300; 24 month British Blue to £1,290; 22 month Hereford to £1,290; 25 month Saler x to £1,250; 10 month Char to £1,230; 10 month Lim to £1,170; Overall average £1,061.44.
Steers:
Top prices of the day went to G W Jones, Nant Erw Haidd for 3 Lim Strs (23 month) at £1,885 followed by three 20 month at £1,775, two 21 month at £1,740 and two 23 month at £1,700.
19 month BB to £1,550; 19 month Char to £1,510; 18 month Simm to £1,370; 19 month Hereford to £1,095; 16 month Stabaliser to £770; 18 month Mox to £760; 12 month Freisan to £700; 12 month Holstein to £700; Overall average £1,160.18.
A well supported sale by vendors and purchasers.

An increased entry of 25 taking some adjustment on the day and a cracking trade with a top price of 250ppk and a top price per head of £1,763.30.

Those stronger calves met a very firm trade with plenty of buyers for those top end calves.
Younger heifer calves proved difficult to sell at times as many buyers continued to be busy in the lambing sheds.
Top price went to M W Roberts & Co, Bodynys selling a Lim bull for £390, with others to £385.
BB bulls to £365; BB heifers to £310; AA bulls to £290; AA heifers to £270; Hereford heifers to £185
Dairy cattle is wanted for the upcoming sale on Thursday, March 31.
Weanlings (auctioneer - Dafydd Parry):
An improved trade as more and more people look to buy weanlings as opposed to calves.
Top price went to G Roberts, Tyddyn Wilym selling a 10 month Lim bullock for £880.
7 month Lim bullocks to £795; 10 month Char heifers to £860; 7 month Simmental bullocks to £650.
More are required on a weekly basis.

Less couples about with 100 units forward, still a good trade on stronger lambs and shapely couples.
Top price of £258 for a Texel twin from G W Pierce, Plas Dolben. Top price of £205 for a Beltex single from Messrs Davies, Nant y Gau.

RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 2,000 prime hoggets to £154 / 337.7ppk and 460 ewes to £195.
Prime hoggets (auctioneer - Elfor Morris):
A total of 2,000 hoggs forward met a better than expected trade, with an SQQ of 266ppk or overall of 255ppk.
Some 858 mediums - averaging 42.7kg - stole the show of 2.71ppk, a good 10ppk better on the week.
Meanwhile, 633 heavy and overweight lambs, to an average of 51.6kg, affected the overall averages as in other centres during week.
There was a tidy trade of 465 standards, average 36.5kg, at 2.57ppk and very few lights were about.
