TWO intrepid Vale of Clwyd women will be putting their best foot forward in a major fundraising challenge at the end of April.

Sally Smith and Rachel Davies, from Ruthin, will aim to walk over 70 miles in just 24 hours from April 30 to May 1.

The dynamic duo, supported by Rachel's husband David, will set off from Aberdaron, in Gwynedd, at 11am on Saturday, April 30.

The aim is to reach Efenechtyd, in Denbighshire, by 11am the following day.
That's a total distance in excess of 70 miles - or 113km!

Sally said: "We are doing the challenge in memory of Olivia Alkir and for Wales Air Ambulance as I’m a registered volunteer for the charity and Rachel and Dave also support them.

"We originally planned to raise money for Olivia’s Window, but they have hit the target, so half the amount raised will be given to Jo and Mesut for them to decide where to donate the money."

Seventeen-year-old Olivia, a pupil at Ruthin's Ysgol Brynhyfryd, tragically died following a car accident in Efenechtyd in June 2019.

Olivia's parents Jo and Mesut Alkir set up the Olivia's Window appeal in memory of their daughter, who was a talented artist.

A stained-glass window designer from Chester has been engaged to reproduce one of her best loved artworks depicting a lane in Efenechtyd, which will replace one of the existing clear window panes at St Michael and All Angels parish church, Efenechtyd.

"Rachel’s husband, Dave, will be supporting us for the whole walk as he has experience of silly challenges like this!" added Sally, who works for the community resource team at Denbighshire County Council.

Sally is no stranger to major fundraising efforts and back in 2020 she raised more than £15,500 for the Wales Air Ambulance Charity.
