RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of heifers to £1450; steers to £1500; calves to £420; stirks to £940; 24 OTMs to £2015.20 / 233ppk; store lambs to £86; ewes and lambs to £325; pet lambs to £22, and cows and calves to £1260.
Store cattle (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):
An excellent entry of 230 store cattle forward met an excellent trade.
A ringside full of buyers and all cattle found a new home.
The usual mixed bag of cattle on offer with dairy x selling very well and sucklers selling well as always.
Heifers:
Top price of £1450 went to E Jones, Clegir Ganol for a 19 month Charolais.

A top price of £2015 was a credit to Mr M Sivill, Plas Coch and well awarded for their quality.

The fortnightly breeding sale attracted plenty of interest.
Beef Shorthorn cow with a Herefod bull calf at foot sold to £1260.
The next breeding sale is on Thursday, April 21. Entries are now invited.

Trade was up on the week, especially for those second quality types.
Younger smaller calves met a premium.
Top price went to Edwards, Highgate selling a Lim bull to £420.
Others: BB bull £390; AA bull £320; BB heifer £595; Baz bull £280; Sim bull £355.
Smaller types: BB bull £250; BB heifers £195; AA bull £225; AA heifer £200.
A dairy sale will be held on Thursday, April 28.

Weanlings (auctioneer-Dafydd Parry):
The proof is in the pudding!
Three new vendors took advantage of the firm trade witnessed at Ruthin.
Those grazing types looked particularly well sold with strong bulls also a firm trade.
Top price went to Martin Sivill, Plas Coch selling 9 month old Lim heifers to £920.
Others: 11 month Sim heifers £795; 10 month AA heifer £700; 6 month AA bulls £615; 5 month Hereford bulls £500; 8 month BF bulls £375.
More are required on a weekly basis.
Ewe and lamb couples (auctioneer-Paul Roberts):
A bigger show than anticipated with the bad weather, but still a very good trade especially on stronger lambed couples.
Younger couples expected next week, with another good show anticipated.
Top price of £325 went to C P Goulding, The Yews for Suffolk twins.
Singles: Average £125.81; Suffolk to £245; Beltex to £195; Mule to £172; Welsh to £155; Lleyn to £80.

A total of 61 Cade lambs forward, with a 100 per cent clearance, from £3 to £22.

A total of 782 prime hoggets were forward with the trade holding firm and an SQQ of 265.2ppk.
Some 230 of the mediums were the best trade on the day, averaging 276.7ppk.

A super show of 300 spring lambs forward for the Easter show and sale with a blistering trade - 366ppk!
Champion pair of lambs exhibited by C Tomlinson, Agden Dairy Farm achieving £310 each and purchased by Tom Hughes, Rhydelian, Sir Fon.

Heavy and overweight hoggs between £125-£131.
Champion pen of hoggs exhibited by DJ & MJ Hughes, Ty Cerrig (38.5kg) and sold to Field Fresh for £142.
