A DENBIGHSHIRE dairy farm enterprise is celebrating the centenary of Urdd Gobaith Cymru with the launch of a commemorative glass milk bottle.
This year’s Urdd National Eisteddfod will be held in Denbighshire from May 30 to June 4 and will celebrate the iconic youth organisation’s 100th anniversary.
To mark the milestone, Rhys Hughes, who last year launched a milk vending business at his family’s dairy farm in Llanrhaeadr, has created specially branded Urdd National Eisteddfod commemorative bottles.
The limited-edition Llaethdy Llwyn Banc Dairy bottle incorporates the Urdd Gobaith Cymru logo and reference to the organisation’s centenary.
Using milk from the farm’s 120-strong herd of Holstein Friesian cows, Llaethdy Llwyn Banc Dairy has six flavoured milks in its range.
The flavours include strawberry and lime, which along with the original milk, form the Urdd colours of red, green and white.
Ideally situated on the A525 between Ruthin and Denbigh, Llaethdy Llwyn Banc Dairy’s vending machine attracts regular customers and passers-by.

In addition to the milk vending machine, the Llaethdy Llwyn Banc site features a vending machine with local produce, including eggs, pies, cakes and crisps.
The enterprise’s milk will also be available on the Maes during the Urdd National Eisteddfod as Rhys, who farms with his parents Wyn and Nia, has arranged a branded vending trailer for the Eisteddfod site on the outskirts of Denbigh.
There is an initial cost of £2 for the commemorative bottle, with milk priced at £1.20 per litre and flavoured milk at £2 per litre.
Helping Rhys in his Urdd bottle venture has been Cywain, which assisted with brand development and social media and marketing training to reach the right audience.
Rhys said: “I am passionate about my business and my local area, and I am excited to launch these limited-edition bottles to mark the 2022 Urdd National Eisteddfod. Cywain’s help has meant that I have been able to develop my idea and hopefully give the Eisteddfod goers a real taste of Denbighshire!”
Charlotte Holliday, Cywain development manager, added: “It’s been a pleasure to work with Rhys on developing his idea and seeing it come to fruition.
"He is a young farmer with ambition, and I am glad that Cywain were able to assist him.”
Director of the Urdd Eisteddfod and the arts, Siân Eirian, said, “The support we’ve had from local volunteers and communities for this year’s Urdd Eisteddfod in Denbighshire has been fantastic, as well as the enthusiasm of local businesses ahead of the festival.
“We look forward to seeing (and enjoying!) Llaethdy Lwyn Banc’s limited edition milk bottles at the Urdd Eisteddfod and wish them every success with the initiative. We are certain this will be a week to remember for everyone involved.”
