Plans are under way to turn a Llangollen bed and breakfast into a bedsit for healthcare workers.
Nadarajah Pragash has applied to Denbighshire County Council’s planning department for permission to change the former Four Poster Bed and Breakfast premises on Mill Street into a house of multiple occupation.
If given the go-ahead, the former B&B will house staff working at the town’s 28-bed Headland Nursing Home, which is operated by Deevale Health.
The home is registered with the Care Inspectorate for Wales and provides elderly people with specialist care.
A report accompanying the planning application from Huw Evans Planning reads: “The staffing requirements for such facilities are high with a need for experienced and suitably qualified care workers.
“The demand is such that supply cannot be met locally with similar recruitment difficulties being present throughout the UK. It is acknowledged as critical with many care homes either having to reduce capacity or closure or facing that prospect in the near future. Consequently the shortage has a direct impact on the level of care that can be provided to residents.”
Houses of multiple occupation (HMOs) typically, developers split large buildings up into small flats where residents share bathrooms and/or kitchens.
If given the go-ahead, the Four Poster Bed and Breakfast premises will be split into 10 residential units.
Residents will have ensuite facilities but share a living room, dining room and kitchen. Eight of the units will be located in the main building.

Two units will be in a smaller detached two-storey building on the east side of the courtyard.
The Canal and River Trust, a charity that looks after Welsh canals, said they had no comment to make when consulted.
A separate planning application will be submitted for the building work.
