RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 463 prime lambs to £150 / 391.9ppk; 383 prime hoggets to £166 / 276.4ppk; 351 ewes to £160 and 93 store pigs to £150.
Prime lambs (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):
Entries are now increasing with 462 prime lambs forward on the day and a very good trade with an SQQ of 335.2ppk.
Mediums were the favourites averaging 340.7ppk, but only 49 in the entry.
Top priced per kilo:
37kg at 391.9ppk by R Owen, Tai Ucha; 34kg at 379.4ppk by B J Evans, Hafod Dafydd; 37kg at 378ppk by G W Jones, Nant Erw Haidd.
Top priced:
48kg at £150 by G W Jones, Nant Erw Haidd; 43kg at £150 by G L Jones, Maes Annod; 43kg at £150 by D Morris, Ty Coch; Overall average 334.6ppk.
Prime hoggs (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):
Unexpectedly, another cracking June entry of 383 prime hoggets!
An excellent trade and an SQQ of 247.7ppk.

74kg at £166 by G W Jones, Nant Erw Haidd; 56kg at £130 by G Williams, Ty Newydd Pennant; 47kg at £129 by M Williams & Son, Criccin.
Top priced per kilo:
44.5kg at 276.4ppk by D H Jones, Clywedog; 45kg at 275.6ppk by G W Jones, Nant Erw Haidd; 47kg at 274.5ppk by M Williams & Son, Criccin; Overall average 246.8ppk.

Cull ewes (auctioneer-Paul Roberts):
Top price of the day was achieved by P Jones, 55 Maes Glyndwr at £160 for a Texel ram.
Texel to £160; Herdwick to £94; Welsh to £94; Speckled to £94; Mule to £130; Cheviot to £107; Crossbred to £138; Halfbred to £134; Tal y Bont to £108; Lleyn to £84; Overall average £92.84.
Store pigs (auctioneer-Elfor Morris):
A total of 93 store pigs forward to a much improved trade.
Pure Welsh store gilts back up to £120-£130 with J P Williams of Prysgol Farm, Caeathro hitting the top of the trade at £140.
Saddle back gilts correct for breeding from N Jones, Y Gaer, Welshpool achieving £75.
Pietrain breeding/stock boar from R G Thomas, Y Wern going on to work at £150, others from the same stable from £60 to £100.
Weaners from £12 to £65, consignments of boars are still not flavour of the month but pens of gilts were a flying trade from £30 to £60 for the best.

Store cattle (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):
An excellent entry for the beginning of June with 129 store cattle forward and an excellent trade.
Heifers topping at £1580 for a 25 month Charolais from JK & E Roberts, Frwynos.
A bit of everything on offer as usual with plenty of bulling heifers in the show selling very, very well.
Some other prices: 24 month Lim £1195; 24 month BB £1140; 19 month BB £1050.
Younger heifers:
14 month Lim £1365; 13 month Saler £1080; Overall average £930.63.
Steers:
Steers topped at £1570 for a 25 month Lim from JK & E Roberts, Frwynos.
Fewer in numbers, but trade holding firm with prices as follows.
19 month AA £1200; 20 month Sim £960.
Younger steers:
15 month Char £1295; 14 month Lim £1165; 11 month Lim £900; 13 month WB £710; Overall average £1047.31.

Trade as strong as ever with 12 forward and topping at 236ppk from R J Roberts, Dysefin for a 121 month Lim cow weighing 760kg.

Calves (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):
A total of 50 calves forward with some cracking suckler bred calves amongst them. Frantic bidding ringside saw the best of these, a 21 day old Lim bull from W H Edwards & Co, Highgate, achieving £550 with a Lim heifer calf from the same holding topping at £535.
A Lim bull from I W Edwards & Son, Bryn yr Orsedd at 4 weeks old found a new home at £425.
Reared 3 month old Lims out of dairy topping the others at £540 and £500 from Edmunds Bros, Pool Park, an unprecedented trade.
R D Jones & Co, Tal y Cafn ended up selling a BB 2-and-a-half month bull to £475.
Younger calves were just as keenly sought after with regular vendors M W Roberts & Co,Bodynys rewarded with £360 for BB bull calves, plenty from £280 to £340 with BB heifer calves from I Jones, Hendrerwydd Farm topping the sale at £270.
Others: Lim heifer calf to £535; BB bull calf to £475; BB heifers calf to £290; Baz bull calf to £290; Hereford bull calf to £210; Hereford heifer calf to £150; AA bull calf to £270; AA heifer calf to £210.
Weanlings (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):
Top price goes to Deian Williams, Hendre selling 12 month Lim heifers to £730.
Others:
9 month Char heifers to £665; 11 month Flekiev bullocks to £595; 10 month BB heifers to £595; 12 month Hereford bullocks to £550; 11 month Norwegian Red to £430.

A good entry of 23 cows and calves forward met a buoyant trade with a ringside full of buyers.
Tomos Davies had 9 first calvers forward with some quality calve at foot selling to £1780.
Baz 2nd calver with a Lim heifer calf at foot to £1300; BB 3rd calver with a bull calf at foot to £1350; Lim 4th calver with a Lim heifer calf at foot to £1600; Lim 5th calver with a Lim heifer calf at foot to £1480.
Bulls (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):
Seven breeding bulls were forward on the day and all found a new home by the evening.
2 yr old Lim from T P Williams & Co, Pen Isa 3500gns; 2 yr old Lim from C M Edwards, Bryn Rodyn 3050gns; 2 yr od Lim from R G Whitley, Spon Farm 3000gns; 2 yr old Lim from C M Edwards, Bryn Rodyn 2550gns; 5 yr od Sim from Davies & Rogers, Penrhos 1690gns; 2 yr old Her from Sian Jones, Bryn Tirion 1460gns.

Couples (58) sold to £89.33/life. Average - £75.55/life.

Lights sold to 200p/kg or £55/head. Average - 200p/kg.
