RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 622 prime lambs to £150 / 342.1ppk and 192 ewes to £140.
Prime lambs (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):
As expected, there were fewer numbers about on the day with an entry of 622.
A two-tier trade, but every pen still keenly competed for resulting in an SQQ of 281.1ppk.
A total of 109 mediums in the entry commanded the best of the trade at 296.8ppk. The majority of the lighter in weight, with the lights at 270.6ppk.
Top priced:
44kg at £150 by Charlie Jones, 2 Maes Clwyd; 48kg at £147 by E A Davies & Co, Dolwerfyl; 46kg at £144 by Sian Jones, Bryn Tirion.
Top priced per kilo:
38kg at 342ppk by Sian Jones, Bryn Tirion; 44kg at 340.9ppk by Charlie Jones, 2 Maes Clwyd; 37kg at 340.5ppk by B J Evans, Hafod Dafydd.
Lights to 285.7ppk, av 270.6ppk; Standards to 342.1ppk, av 278.3ppk; Mediums to 340.9ppk, av 296.8ppk; Heavies to 319.6ppk, av 277.2ppk.

RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of one bull to 2000gns; seven cows & calves to £1580; 17 heifers to £1260; 34 steers to £1240; 80 calves to £490; 34 stirks to £775; 14 OTMs to £1575.60 / 210ppk; 208 store lambs to £93.50 and 112 store ewes to £144.
Store cattle (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):
There was a seasonal entry on the day, but no lack of demand with the trade holding firm.
A total of 17 heifers were forward, topping at £1260 for a 22 month BB from I Evans, Wern Derw.

22 month Lim £1040; 25 month AA £905; 13 month BB £765.
Overall average £1024.71.
Meanwhile, eight steers were forward with a top price of £1240 going for a 24 month BB from E G Jones, Dolwen.

Overall average £854.38.

A tally of 14 barren cows were forward with some prices as follows.

A three-year-old Stabiliser bull from Jones, Foxhall Farm sold to 2000gns.
Cows & calves (auctioneer-Dafydd Parry):
It was a pleasing trade throughout.
Top price went to Jones, Dolwen selling an aged Lim cow with a Lim bull calf at foot to £1580.
A Lim first calver with a Lim heifer calf at foot from Gwyneth Campbell sold to £1480 with another Lim bull calf at foot selling to £1440.
The next dairy sale and breeding sale will be on July 28.
Calves (auctioneer-Dafydd Parry):
A total of 80 calves were forward with the majority of calves being young heifer types.
Few vendors off loading before the show.
A firm trade throughout.
Top price goes to Hughes, Ffrith Isaf selling a BB bull to £490 with another to £390.
BB heifers £420; Lim heifer £370; AA bull £235.
Younger types:
BB bull £250; BB heifers £205; Hereford bull £170; Hereford heifer £120; BF bull £140.
Weanlings (auctioneer-Dafydd Parry):
An increased trade.
More calf buyers looking for weanlings as opposed to calves due to the hot weather.
Top price of £760 went to Jones & Green, Moel Is y Goedwig for a 12 month old Hereford bullock.
5 month AA heifer £465; 6 month Sim bullock £500; 9 month BB heifer £750.
More are required on a weekly basis.

A seasonal entry of sponging ewes again for the week.
Texel full mouth £144; Texel 4 tooth £128; Texel 3&4 year old £120; Dorset broken mouth £125; Dorset full mouth £108; Mule 3&4 year old £120; Cheviot full mouth £126; Scotch full mouth £116; Tal y Bont Welsh 3&4 year old £112; Suffolk 2 year old £140.

Just a very tidy trade with fair prices across the board.
Top price went to AH & L Brookes-Roberts, Ty Draw achieving £93.50 for Texel ram lambs.

Prime lambs (auctioneer-Elfor Morris):
A tally of 1460 lambs forward on the day were following trends with less about nationwide.
SQQ 295ppk.
Demand still there for meatier heavy lambs with the best still commanding the £3.50 to £4 mark.
Very few light lambs about but, generally, 33kg-34kg in the early £90 mark.
