FLORAL fans in the Vale of Clwyd have been learning all out a famous figure with royal connections.
At the most recent meeting of Denbigh Floral Art Club, Ann Houghton gave a very entertaining account of the life of the well-known flower arranger Constance Spry.
Constance was born in England in 1886, moving around the country and Ireland in her early years, marrying in 1910 and having a son.
She left a violent marriage to return to England and work in various jobs before her love of flowers and gardening took over, and she started to be well known for her designs at various venues and for some famous names.
Ann managed to interpret the story with some wonderful designs herself and all present could relate the designs to Constance.

The flowers were stunning and beautifully presented in a very professional way, including hand-tied bouquets and arrangements using the similar containers and also mechanics, as floral foam was not available in those days.
Constance was also a very good cook and having arranged the flowers for the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and Phillip, she is credited with inventing Coronation Chicken, which is still loved today.
The next meeting of Denbigh Floral Art Club is on Tuesday, September 6 (7.30pm) at the Plas Pigot Country Club.
There will be a free workshop will for all members and any visitors will be charged £5.
Those attending are reminded to take along their scissors for the social evening.
In the meantime, don't forget to attend the Denbigh Show on August 27 to admire the efforts of all those that compete for the various cups and prizes.
