RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 1,209 prime lambs to £132 / 300ppk and 456 ewes to £116.

Prime lambs (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):

More numbers about on the day with a show of 1,209 lambs forward in what was a mixed show of lambs.

There was still a pleasing SQQ of 238.2ppk.

Vendors were rewarded with well finished lambs.

40kg at 290ppk by D S Faulkner, Penlan.

Lights to 258.1ppk, av 224ppk; Standards to 269.2ppk, av 234.6ppk; Mediums to 300ppk, av 244.3ppk; Heavies to 237.5ppk, av 230.4ppk; Overs to 214.3ppk, av 211.7ppk.

SQQ 238.2pk; Overall average 237.5ppk

Another good sale and trade holding relatively firm.

Top priced ram: £100 for a X/Bred rams from G A Hughes, Bryn y Cosyn.

Top priced ewe: £116 for Texel ewes from RL&G Davies, Bwlch Grianog.

Suffolk to £114; Cheviot to £100; Mules to £82; Welsh to £60.

Overall average £49.75.

St Asaph livestock market - August 20

THE breeding ewes and rams sale at St Asaph saw 2,277 breeding ewes, breeding rams and store lamb.

Breeding ewes hit £350.

Meanwhile, 27 pens of ewes sold at £200+, with 43 pens of ewes selling at £190+. Store lambs sold to £107/head and to 248p/kg.

A fantastic entry of ewes for the second catalogued sale of breeding ewes of the year met a terrific trade!

Class 1 (best pen of 10 or more Texel x Yearling Ewes): 1, DH & MW Williams, Fron Heulog and sold for £210/head; 2, RD & CE Davies, Ty Canol and sold for £200/head.

Class 2 (best pen of 10 or more Suffolk x Yearling Ewes): 1, PA Jones, Fadog and sold for £200/head; 2, PA Jones, Fadog and sold for £192/head.

Class 3 (best pen of 10 or more Mule Yearling Ewes): 1, GW Griffith, Y Ddol and sold for £195/head; 2, WM Jones, Bryn Clochydd and sold for £156/head.

Other highlights:

Top price of the day was achieved by IP Jones, Maestyddyn, Cerrigydrudion who sold a pair of Beltex x Texel Yearling Ewes for £350/head.

This was closely followed by Idris Morris Ltd, Fachell who sold 18 Pure Texel Yearling Ewes to average £293.89/head.

Highlights of this run included 3 x £320, 4 x £320, 4 x £310, 3 x £270, 4 x £250.

RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 1,884 prime lambs to £158 / 316.2ppk and 370 ewes to £109.

Prime lambs (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):

A show of 1,884 prime lambs forward on the day to an SQQ of 249.5ppk and an overall average of 249.7ppk.

Heavy lambs were in keen demand helping the overall average and the mediums again topped the pence per kilo at 252.7ppk.
