A DENBIGHSHIRE father and son will take to the global stage next year.

Bryn and Arwyn Davies, of Bryneglwys, have both qualified to represent Wales at the 2023 World Sheep Dog Trials in Northern Ireland.

They will take place at the Gill Hall Estate in Dromore, County Down, on September 23, 2023.

A proud Bryn, 57, said: "I have been hoping it would happen for a while.

"We have been close before."

Twenty eight year-old Arwyn added: "It's been a long time coming!"

The duo were part of many hopefuls who headed to Newtown hoping to qualify from the Welsh trials.

"There were three days of qualifying and seven from each day qualified," explained Bryn.

"As long as you're in the 21, that's all that counts.

"I've been in the international team three times, but this is my first time ever in the world trials.

"I'm just very happy."

For Arwyn, this is the third time he has qualified for the world trials team.

He said: "I finally get to represent my country with dad after 10 years of competing against each other.

"We finally got to make the Welsh world trial team together and to top it off, me and Cynfal Gwen finished second overall behind a worthy winner and a class act, Rob Ellis and Todd.

"I can't thank the committee and helpers enough for a tremendous show, the way you all pulled together was amazing.

"Sheep where tremendous, a credit to the owners."

Bryn started his sheep dog trials career back in the mid-1990s and he said: "Arwyn's grown up with it.

"I was probably more proud seeing him qualify.

"I get much more nervous watching him!"

The pair would like to thank the organisers of the Welsh trial and Welsh president Glyn Jones for finding the course.

"It was a tremendous course and field," added Bryn.

"Thanks to the local committee and the sheep were tremendous."
