RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 1,153 prime lambs to £130 / 279ppk and 241 ewes to £13.
Prime lambs (auctioneer-Elfor Morris):
A total of 1,153 lambs forward on the day with a yard average weight of 38.4kg to an average of 222ppk.
Vendors corn feeding still rewarded with a premium with the sought after lambs anywhere from 245-275ppk.

59kg at £125 by E W Evans, Summer Hill Farm.
58kg at £125 by I H Jones, Tai’n y Waen.

Store cattle (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):
A super show of 216 cattle forward and a very busy day in all sections.
Some excellent cattle to pick from and a ringside full of buyers to compete for them, resulting in an excellent trade throughout.
A tally of 72 heifers topped at £1420 for a cracking 18 month Lim from S E Jones, Llaethgwm.

16 month Char £1400; 15 month Lim £1395; 21 month Char £1290; 24 month BB £1220.
Overall average £1023.53.
A total of 114 steers forward topping at £1650 for two big heavy 17 month BB steers from M Davies, Clwt Grugor and three 23 month Lims from WE & RO Pritchard, Ty’n y Caeau.

The first weekly Thursday entry with rams met a pleasing trade.
Rams required on a weekly basis to be sold at 1pm in the Exhibition Hall.
Top price went to Mathew Jones, Glan y Mor at 500gns for a shearling Beltex.
Lleyn shearling to 300gns; Texel ram lamb to 280gns; Dutch spotted ram lamb to 190gns.
Calves (auctioneer-Dafydd Parry):
Calves in short supply with trade dearer on the week.
Plenty more required as the recent downfall of rain boosts confidence amongst the purchasers.
Top price of £370 went to Hughes, Shifna Hir Farm.

Majority of cattle comprised of dairy older types which met a firm trade.
Top price of £850 went to Roberts, Ty’n Celyn for 14 month old BB bullocks.

15 month BB heifers to £695; 8 month Sim bullocks o £745; 10 month Char £700; 4 month Lim bullock to £560.

A pleasing trade and a better than expected SSQ of 240ppk on an entry of 2128.
A total of 1182 mediums sharper on the week at 243ppk, closley followed by heavies at 241ppk.
Fewer standards and lights about probably helping the overall average.
