RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 1,019 prime lambs to £122 / 293.6ppk and 342 ewes to £108.

Prime lambs (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):

A few less lambs about on the day and a mixed show of lambs.

A leaner show than usual but a better trade with 1,019 lambs and an SQQ of 243.5ppk.

Light lambs still harder to sell than the other weight brackets but all returning an overall market average of 241.8ppk.

Top priced:

56kg at £122 by RL & G Davies, Bwlch Graianog.

47.5kg at £121 by W Needham, Pen y Graig.

52kg at £120 by R & E Williams & Son, Hendre.

31kg at 293.6ppk by Mrs G Jones, Ty Helyg.

43kg at 274.4ppk by Ifan Hughes, Fourcrosses.

39kg at 271.8ppk by D Vaughan & IW Davies, Tai Isa.

RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 87 heifers to £1410; 133 steers to £1600; 18 OTMs to £1600 / 232ppk; 107 calves to £460; 70 stirks to £780; 1703 store lambs to £120; 1629 breeding ewes to £195; 39 rams to 900gns and 599 ewe lambs to £134.

Store cattle (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):

Numbers increasing weekly with a show of 308 cattle on the day.

Another show of quality cattle and an excellent trade once again.

A total of 87 heifers topped at £1410 for a 23 month BB heifer from Mrs C M Jones, Cae Isaf.

10 month Lim £1235; 18 month Char £1210; 16 month Lim £1200; 17 month AA £1080; 18 month HEX £1060.

Overall average £981.00.

A total of 133 Steers forward topped at £1600 for a 19 month Lim from S E Jones, Llaethgwm once again.

A tally of 18 barren cows forward on the day with a good trade on what was a show of leaner cattle than usual.

Top price per kilo of 232ppk went to D H Roberts, Penlan for a 39 month Lim weighing 690kg, also achieving the overall top price of £1600.80 with the same beast.

Dairy bred types forward, which met a firm trade.

A lot of cattle suffering from the hot weather and shortage of grass over the summer.

Top price went to Roberts, Ty’n Celyn selling a 16 month old Lim bullock to £785.

Others:

10 month BB bullock £775; 14 month old Lim heifer £670; 8 month old Lim heifer £550; 4 month Lim bull £500; 5 month AA heifer £505.

Calves (auctioneer-Dafydd Parry):

Increased entry, with trade up on the week.

Those stronger types still a firm trade, however with the cost of feed and powder so high, younger, longer term calves harder to sell.

Top price went to Roberts, Parc selling a Lim bull to £460.

Others:

Lim bull £400; BB bull £340; BB heifer £255; HF bull £140; AA bull £215.

Breeding rams (auctioneer-Dafydd Parry):

A real good trade with competitive bidding on the majority of rams forward.

Top price of 900gns went to Idris Morris, Fachell with a Texel yearling.

Other Texel yearlings from 400-800gns; Texel yearling to 400gns; Texel x Cha yearling 400gns; Texel ram lambs 350gns; Suffolk yearling 420gns; Suffolk ram lambs 400gns; Charolais yearling 400gns.

A total of 1629 breeding ewes forward to an average of £120.29.

Top price of £95 went to Harry Wanklyn for Texel yearlings.

A total of 1702 store lambs forward and a stronger trade through and through. Good demand for all types in particular long term nice type ewe lambs looking well sold from £75 to £85.

Top price went to Kelsey Roberts, Llandyrnog selling Texel ram lambs to £111.

Ewe lambs (auctioneer-Elfor Morris):

Opening weekly sale of 500 ewe lambs with a very good trade on vendors first draws, but second quality harder to place similar to society sales.

Regular vendors IW Williams and TI & CM Jones well rewarded with £134 and £126 respectively.

Overall average £105.55.

RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports the sales of 2132 prime lambs to £132 / 292.1ppk and 713 ewes to £126.

Prime lambs (auctioneer-Elfor Morris):

A tally of 2,132 lambs forward with all weights sharper on the week.

Standards a fair bit better at 239ppk with mediums and heavies at 236ppk, pleasing trade on lighter lambs returning an average of 220ppk.
