RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 1,546 prime lambs to £123 / 265.1ppk and 689 ewes to £124.
Prime lambs (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):
The end of a very busy week here at Ruthin with 10,729 sheep sold.
A big Friday show with 1,546 lambs on the day and an SQQ of 219.5ppk.
Lighter lambs took an adjustment in price whilst mediums were still in keen demand.

46kg at £118 by WH & JM Pierce, Rhan Hir Farm.
49kg at £117 by A & LC Evans, Ty’n y Celyn.

41.5kg at 265ppk by EL & CR & AL Ellis, Ty Isa.
43kg at 258.1ppk by C L Davies a’i gwmni, Bodheulog.
46kg at 256.5ppk by WH & JM Pierce, Rhan Hir Farm.

Very much a mixed show of lambs on offer and a very two tier trade on the day with some of the lighter lambs now selling below £2 a kilo.

Store cattle (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):
A good weekly show again on the day with 247 cattle forward.
A 100 per cent clearance again with plenty of interest ringside and plenty of variety on offer for everyone's requirements.
A tally of 95 heifers topped at £1,400 for a 14 month BAX from Evans Bros, Nant Melai.

The trend continues to show some resistance to longer term cattle but plenty of demand nevertheless at a price.

Top price per kilo of 220ppk went to Pritchard Bros, Brynychain for a 165 month Lim weighing 765kg and G Edwards, Tan Llan, with a 28 month Char weighing 680kg.
Top price of £1871.10 also went to Pritchard Bros, Brynychain for a 69 month Lim weighing 945kg.

A total of 2076 store lambs forward with a little more resistance in the trade as in other centres during the week, probably more long term lambs about and looking reasonable value between £50 and £70.
Some vendors on third and fourth pick still hitting the £90 mark with those strongest tup lambs, with £78-£79 stopping most ewe lambs.
Top price went to W B Davies, Glan Dyfyr at £96 for Texel ram lambs.

Prime lambs (auctioneer-Elfor Morris):
A total of 2917 lambs forward to an SQQ of 235ppk.
Meanwhile, 1574 mediums were the trade of the day at 238ppk.
More standard weight lambs than usual with a few coming straight off grass to an average weight of 36.5kg to average 231ppk or £85/head all through.
Heavy lambs still coming to nice money.
