AN optimised retrofit programme for Ruthin council homes will begin this autumn.

Preparations are underway to carry out the Welsh Government-funded energy improvements to 17 Denbighshire Housing properties on Canol-Y-Dre.

Work will start this month and is expected to take 14 weeks to complete all the properties.

The energy improvement work will include fitting solar panels that will generate electricity and also store it in connected batteries to allow energy use in the evenings.

Improvement work on external wall insulation will also be carried out to help reduce drafts and the energy needed to heat each home especially during winter time.

Cllr Rhys Thomas, lead member for housing and communities at Denbighshire County Council, said: “We are really pleased to introduce our energy improvement works to our council homes on Canol-Y-Dre.

“Following completion, these homes will have improved energy efficiency in times of rising fuel costs and will also better support the council’s continuing work to reduce our carbon footprint across the county."
