RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 1,143 prime lambs to £129 / 265.7ppk and 469 ewes to £153.
Prime lambs (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):
A total of 1,136 prime lambs forward to an SQQ of 224ppk.
It was a mixed show of lambs as usual, but some more quality about than the previous week.
Welsh lambs, depending on meat and weight, anywhere from 190-210ppk.
Medium Welsh around the 220ppk.

A total of 274 store cattle forward and what an excellent show of cattle.
A tally of 92 heifers topped at £1,500 for a 34 month BB from JK & E Roberts, Fwynos.

A superb entry of 162 calves sold at Ruthin with a fair trade for all.
Ringside packed full of buyers with quality calves forward.
Small, young heifer calves still a difficult trade at times.
Top price went to R L Wynne, Ty Newydd selling a Lim heifer calf to £395.

Lim bull calves to £365; Hereford heifer calves to £160; AA bull calves to £300; AA heifer calves to £150; Stabiliser bull calves to £220; Stabiliser heifer calves to £115; HF bull calves to £50.
The winner of the Aberdeen Angus competition is M W Roberts & Son, Bodynys, selling a male calf or £300 and purchased by A Owen, Bryn Du. Named sire is Hole in One.

A total of 564 store ewes forward, mainly Welsh with a few consignments of crossbred ewes.
Top price of £137 went to E & D Jones & Sons, Rhoslydan with Texel ewes.

A terrific show of 2,380 store lambs on the day.
In general, the short term lambs were a bit easier, £85-90 stopping most of the strongest tup lambs and similar with the strongest ewe lambs.
Medium term lambs and lighter lambs a very consistent trade with plenty of buyers for all sorts.
Top price went to D Williams, Hafotty Gwyn with Texel ram lambs at £114.

A total of 913 medium weight lambs to an average 250ppk or £106.50 (42.7kg average weight).
Standards and lights a lot sharper on the week at 243ppk and 212ppk respectively.
Corn fed heavy lambs from £120 to £140.
