PLANS are in place to mark the start of the festive season in a Vale of Clwyd town.

Denbigh Town Council has announced that this year's Christmas lights switch-on event will go ahead at the end of this month.

Festivities will be taking place in the town on Friday, November 25.

During the morning, children from local primary and secondary schools will be singing on Crown Square.

Times for singing will be allocated closer to the time, but they will be distributed by each school to parents.

All day on the square, there will be a Christmas market, which is likely to offer a variety of gift ideas for people.

All day, John Sellars will be acting as the compere, while there will also be a DJ.

Fairground rounds will open from lunchtime onwards, while people will get the opportunity to see a donkey on the square in the afternoon.

Between 3 and 8pm, Santa and Ellie the Elf will be in attendance during the festivities.

It will cost £3 per child (cash only) and the queue to see Santa will close at 7pm.

Meanwhile, between 5.30 and 7.30pm, there will be a free fun bus for children between the ages of three and eight years.

Adding to the day, Denbigh Library will be holding a children’s activity hour between 4.30 and 5.30pm.

St Mary's Church is looking at having an activity session with children to make lanterns.

There will be a lantern procession from St Mary’s Church to Crown Square in time for the Christmas lights switch-on at 6pm.

The Christmas lights switch-on event proved to be a successful one last year and a multitude of lights are planned for various areas of the town this year.

They will be located on Vale Street, High Street, Bridge Street, Lenten Pool, Crown Square and in the car parks.

As for Christmas trees, one will be located on Crown Square during the festive season, with others on the two roundabouts.
