A community gathered to celebrate bonfire night in a bid to raise money for a local cause.

The event, held at Llanferres Village Hall was held to support the Llanferres Playing Field and Recreation Association, a charity that operates thanks to the effort of volunteers in the village.

The charity needs £2,000 a year to aid the regular upgrading and ongoing maintenance of the community park for children and adults.

The event was organised by subcommittee leader, Elaine Williams-Gibson alongside subcommittee members Gareth Jaggard, Sheila Hawkes, Ceri Thomas, Bill Hutorny, Korina Glass with help from chairperson, Sean Thomas.

There were plenty of activities for children to enjoy which included creating an explosion of colour against the night sky on black paper using colourful paints and colouring in lanterns which would later guide the way for everyone to march up to the park and watc in amazement at the impressive fireworks display which took place in the park.

Great additional support was provided by Llywela Thomas, Sandra Jones and Julie Dolan in the kitchen and three generations of the Jaggard family who ran a hot potato stall outside.

Councillor Huw Williams judged a competition which saw members of the community bring their own DIY Guy Fawkes.

Chairperson, Sean Thomas said: "The numbers attending far exceeded our expectation, and apologies to those that missed out on art activities and lanterns but, we believe the firework display more than made up for any disappointments.

"We would hope to have raised in excess of £700 on the night for much needed operational funds.

"Huge thanks are due to all volunteers and the people attending who, from comments made, had a great time."

Plans are already underway for next year's event to take place.
