RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 928 prime lambs to £131 / 293.5ppk and 271 ewes to £175.
Prime lambs (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):
The numbers out throughout the week and the slipping trade drew less numbers out for the Friday Christmas show and sale.
However, the SQQ was a better than expected 228.6ppk on lambs.

Store cattle (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):
An entry of 24 barrens, 28 heifers, 35 steers and 21 stirks for the second week in December.
A cracking show of quality cattle forward on the day.
Heifers topped at £1320 for a 20 month Charolais from RL & G Davies, Bwlchgraianog.

A seasonal entry with trade still buoyant. Dairy types forward sold to a very good trade.
Top price of £635 went to Lloyd Bros, Bathafarn with 5 month BB bullocks.
11 month old Sim heifers £560; 12 month old AA bullocks £430; 12 month old HF bullocks £250.
Overall average £439.29.
Calves (auctioneer-Dafydd Parry):
The Christmas show and sale saw a pleasing entry of 78 calves.
It was one of the best show of calves the auction has seen, which was a credit to all vendors.
Thank-you goes to judge Huw Williams, Tyddyn Chambers for doing an excellent job at the judging.
Also, the auction wishes to thank all the valued customers throughout the year, both vendors and purchasers, enabling the calf section to thrive.

Best Dairy x continental heifer went to Williams, Plas Mawr selling a BB to £270.
Best Dairy x native bull went to Edmunds, Pool Park selling a AA to £260.
Best HF bull went to Edwards, Maes y Llyn which sold to £50.

Store lambs (auctioneer-Elfor Morris):
A tally of 1493 store lambs entered, with numbers still going strong every week.
Trade on bigger lambs and the strongest tup lambs every bit as good as previous weeks, but lighter Welsh lambs were harder to place in line with fat stock markets during the week.
Best of the ewe lambs still up in the £80-£90 mark.
Top price of £109 for a pen of Texel ram lambs went to R G Roberts & Co, Berwynfa.
Texel ewe lambs to £98; Welsh ram lambs to £70; Mule ram lambs to £80; Mule ewe lambs to £77; Crossbred ram lambs to £81.
Overall average £59.42.

RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 2,985 prime lambs to £470 / 111.9ppk; 526 ewes to £212; 17 prime steers to £2052 / 380ppk; 16 prime heifers to £4068.50 / 790ppk and three OTMs to £1506.50 / 230ppk.
Prime lambs (auctioneer-Elfor Morris):
A terrific entry just short of 3,000 lambs for the Christmas show and sale of prime butchers lambs, with a pleasing overall average of 246ppk or 248 SQQ.
Medium lambs stole the show, with 1532 in total averaging 252ppk.
More standard weights than in previous weeks, 754 at 243ppk, with 137 lights on par with other centres at 212ppk and 558 heavies and over weights at 246ppk.
Two 46kg lambs kindly donated to the MND Association from John Jones, Wylfa Farm, Leeswood were purchased by David Jones of Stansty for Jones Bros Farm Shop for a magnificent sum of £220 each.

Supreme Champion lamb from Dyfan Evans, Pendref weighing 42kg sold to £470 (£11.19ppk) and was purchased by Tom Hughes, Rhydelian, Llanfair PG.
Reserve Champion lamb from Tirion Griffiths, Ty Isa weighing 51kg sold to £270 and was purchased by Gerallt Roberts on behalf of Field Fresh.
Best single lamb YFC from Tirion Griffiths, Ty Isa, weighing 44kg sold to £390 (£8.86ppk) and was purchased by Glyn Morris on behalf on A H Burns.
Thanks go to judge Glyn Morris, who had the difficult task of judging the quality pairs of lambs on offer and the pens of 10 or more.

Prime cattle (auctioneer-Dafydd Parry):
A tremendous show of 36 quality cattle which included 21 show cattle.
The quality forward was an absolute credit to all vendors.

A special thank-you to judge Dafydd Roberts, of the local butchers in Denbigh, J H Jones, who did an excellent job.
Achieving the supreme champion was HH & EM Evans, Bryndu, with a Lim heifer weighing 515kg which sold to an impressive 790ppk (£4068.50) and was purchased by H Lloyd, Lodge Farm, Herefordshire.
Reserve Champion was achieved by TE & Ff M Edwards, Pen y Bryniau, with a Lim heifer weighing 510kg and selling to 480ppk (£2448).
She was purchased by the judge Dafydd Roberts.
The Pen y Bryniau family also achieved second top price in the lump with a 620kg Lim heifer at £2554.40 (412ppk).
