DOG WALKERS are being warned after reports of a deadly virus present at a Flintshire beauty spot.
There have been recent reports of a "serious outbreak" of a gastric virus on Halkyn Mountain.
A post shared on the Halkyn Mountain Community group on Facebook said: "We have taken our pup to the vets today as sick and dehydrated, the vets that treated our pup was the same vet that treated a seriously ill dog a few days ago also from the Halkyn Mountain area.
"We have been advised to keep our dog off the mountain as much as possible and away from areas where people mostly walk their dogs."
Another posted said: "Just for awareness - a friend has sadly lost their two-year-old dog from a bacterial infection, that they understand their other dog caught on the Rhes y Cae mountain area.
"They wanted me to share, so that others know the symptoms to look out for. Her dog was unwell, diarrhoea and passing blood. She said to tell the vet, as there apparently have been other cases. And if you have more than one dog, ask for all to be given antibiotics, as her other dog was fine, but it passed on from the other dog and very sadly passed away."
