AT this time of year it is traditional to think rather more about others than ourselves, and the current international situation certainly gives us plenty to mull over, and we all wish for the conflicts throughout the world to end as soon as possible.

But, closer at home we have our own challenges which anyone on a low income, who reads a newspaper or watches the news on TV will be well aware of.

But it’s the Christmas season, and also a time to look forward.
We are emerging from several years of restrictions and it is so good to see life returning to normal.

Denbigh Town Council has finally been able to re-start many of the activities that it organises and funds.

The fireworks in November were perhaps a very visible signal of this, enjoyed by a record-breaking host of families who I thank for attending.

We’ve also helped out the Urdd, contributed to the A55 brown signs (at long last!), provided several hundred blankets for those who are suffering from this cold weather and funded many charitable activities.

We will also see a return of the traditional Denbigh celebrations on Boxing Day (or St Stephen’s Day as King Wenceslas would know it) and I’m sure that we will again see a record attendance.

Please come along and support Denbigh Rotary and its charities.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our town councillors and the town hall staff for their unceasing efforts this and every year, especially during the Covid times.

Much of the work goes on behind the scenes and there are things we’d love to do, but which are outside out remit.

There’s lots of information on our website and I’d encourage anyone who would like to help to contact Jenny, our town clerk, on 01745 815984.

Finally, I have to say what an honour it has been to be elected as Mayor, and I look forward to the remaining time I have.

I, and the whole town council, wish you all what you hope for in 2023, and that you enjoy Christmas, whatever you are doing and wherever you may be.

CLLR ALYN ASHWORTH
Mayor of Denbigh
