INTERESTED people are being sought to become trustees and safeguard the future of a popular Denbighshire association.

Llanfwrog Community Association is keen to see people join up to become new trustees.

Trustee Rod Bowden said: "We've now got three trustees and we can have a maximum of 12."

Llanfwrog Community Association was formed in 2005 to oversee the raising of funds for and the management of the construction of the facilities at Lon Fawr, Ruthin, and the future management of the facilities.

A decade ago, the association's Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) was established and last year, the 99-year lease of the lands at the Lon Fawr site with Denbighshire County Council was assigned to this new charity from the community association.

In addition, all of the assets were transferred to the CIO from the old charity and the existing trustees became the new trustees of the CIO.

Plenty has been achieved by the association in its near two-decade history, beginning with six floodlit tennis courts at the site back in 2006.

This was followed by a community hall and cafe, five youth and junior football pitches, a golf driving range, a nine-hole foot golf course and a crown bowling green.

Three is the lowest amount of trustees the association can have.

If this number falls below three, then the trustees remaining would need to advise the Charity Commission immediately that they are not in compliance with the constitution.

It could also mean that the charity ceases to operate.

"We are looking for someone to take on the secretary and treasurer roles," added Mr Bowden.

"We've got someone as the treasurer, but he is stepping down next year."

At present, two of the trustees are in their late 70s, with Mr Bowden in his early 70s.

"We do need local trustees.

"People from the Ruthin area to take this over," he said.
