A 23-YEAR-old DJ was left "buzzing" after  performing at the Eurovision Village in Liverpool.

Rhys Fairhurst, a freelance DJ and Studio Manager at Late Night Agency, performed on Tuesday, May 9 and is performing tonight (Wednesday, May 10).

The former Ysgol Glan Clwyd pupil in St Asaph, whose DJ name is DJ Fairhurst, has been performing for about five years. After DJing at pubs, small venues and house parties, he progressed to playing at larger clubs and festivals.

He then made the move from Rhyl to Liverpool to pursue a career in music.

Rhys said: "My set on Tuesday went really well. I was lucky enough to have the sun shining and lots of music lovers filling the space from the get go.

"I played just after the English National Opera who set the tone nicely and got people up, on their feet and ready to dance.

"I felt super buzzing and proud to be involved in such an incredible historic event. I’m very lucky and so grateful to have been able to play there.

"On the whole, it was an amazing day."

Rhys focuses mainly on dance music genres such as Disco, House and Techno.

He has been hostng the ‘Wake Up!’ show on Liverpool based radio station ‘Melodic Distraction’ for about a year and has been DJing at their venue, Melodic Bar, regularly over that time too.

The opportunity to perform at the Eurovision Village came after Melodic Distraction partnered with the organisers of the Eurovision Village to book in a handful of upcoming local DJs for performances on the main stage.

Rhys was lucky enough to have been asked to play.

Talking about what the response was like from the crowds at the Eurovision village, Rhys said: "Although it was quite early on in the day, the atmosphere was buzzing straight from the off with people of all ages dancing and singing away. The crowd was full of colourful clothing, flags and personalities and it was lovely to be a part of it.

"Although the venue itself is capable of holding around 15,000 people, I’m not sure exactly how many people were there whilst I was DJing but the arena did begin to fill up quickly once the gates were opened.

"I’m looking forward to seeing how tonight goes. I’m playing a later slot so it should hopefully be even busier."

Eurovision Village is the 'main hub' for fans and residents to soak up the celebratory atmosphere of the Eurovision Song Contest.

The 'village' offers a mix of one-off shows, live performances, DJ sets and special guest appearances.
