A FREELANCE artist has re-designed a bench in Denbigh as part of a project to tackle loneliness in the community.

Chloé Dymond took part in the Denbigh Friendly Benches Project, run by housing association Grwp Cynefin and Denbighshire County Council, to give a bench by St Mary’s Church a fresh red new look.

The bench was chosen for Chloé in conjunction with Ysgol Pendref, Denbigh.

She then spent some time with pupils of the school asking what they wanted to see on the bench.

Much of the feedback she received was to stick to a Welsh theme, with additions of the school’s logo and Denbigh Castle.

Chloé said: “I have to say, the children were a fantastic help - so enthusiastic, expressive and creative with their ideas; a credit to Denbigh and their loved ones, indeed.

“One of the main points the children asked for was Welsh phrases – ‘Sut Wyt Ti?’, meaning: ‘How are you?’, and I added ‘croeso’ (‘welcome’) to invite people in.

“The bench is filled with lots of hand-painted Welsh symbols that you can spend time looking at, whether they remind you of something or a game to play with your children - count the daffodils, maybe?

“It was a pleasure to be chosen to paint the bench and I hope to do more things like this in the future.”
