A FRESH plea has been made to dog owners to keep them on leads on Moel Famau after a sheep was found mauled to death.
The Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty's Facebook page issued the plea after the incident on Wednesday morning.
The post said: "This morning the rangers were notified of a fatal dog attack on a sheep at Moel Famau.
"A witness stated two vizsla dogs, off lead with a group runners, chased after the sheep halfway up the mountain and attacked one of them. On arriving on site no people were around but rangers did find a dead sheep in the same location with attack wounds around the neck.
"This has been reported to the police."
It continued: "Dogs MUST be kept on a lead at Moel Famau. By not having them on a lead you are not only risking them worrying and killing sheep that graze the hill but you are putting your own dog's life at risk.
"You can be taken to court, fined and have a destruction order placed on your dog. Please be a responsible dog owner and keep them on a lead when visiting Moel Famau."
