FIVE new CCTV cameras are to be installed in Denbigh town centre following a cash injection of £55,000.

Lenton Pool and Vale Street lights will be covered with the new cameras.

Existing cameras will also be replaced with newer models that provide "higher quality images" for better security.

The project is a joint initiative between Denbighshire County Council and Denbigh Town Council which has received £55,687 from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Cllr Alyn Ashworth, Denbigh Town Council Mayor, said: “The safety of our residents and visitors is a priority for us.  We have been working closely with Denbighshire CCTV Partnership on plans to upgrade our town centre cameras for some time and now look forward to being able to join the Partnership with a modern CCTV network in our town centre.”

Cllr Rhys Thomas, Lead Member for Housing and Communities and Chair of the Denbighshire CCTV Partnership, said: “It is pleasing to see another town council join the CCTV Partnership and see it grow.

"The financial assistance from the UK Government through their Shared Prosperity Funding programme is making a positive contribution to the local community and contributes to the wider priority for safer streets.

“We hope to see the Partnership grow further and become more proactive across the county in the coming years so that CCTV makes a positive contribution to the local community and contribute to the wider priority for safer streets.”
