Reader memories of summer holidays in North Wales and beyond

For many of us growing up in the region, this time meant a day trip to the coast, or longer in we were lucky.

When people are asked where their summer holiday destinations were, the beautiful beaches and coastline of North Wales were a popular choice...

Shân Dodd: "Towyn or Rhyl and loved every minute. Caravan usually but did stay in a flat that used to be above arcades one year. Have the happiest memories of our family holidays."

Denise Murphy: "My childhood summer holidays were always at Shell Island with my parents, grandparents, uncles, aunties and cousins. We would play in the rock pools, swim in the sea and have barbecues on the beach. They were the best times."

Josephine Clark: "Rhyl mostly, my aunty and uncle had a caravan in Prestatyn, they invited me to join them as I was an only child, so I was company for my cousin Nigel. We had great fun in those days, bucket and spade to make sandcastles, then ice lolly after tea. Happy Days."

Kevin Francis: "Black Rock in a Caravan on Green Acres. Down there life didn't get in the way of happiness. I loved playing cards with mum and dad as the sun went down, we always seemed to be laughing."

Ian Evans: "Victoria CP School trip was always to Frith Beach in the 60s. I remember in the 50s and 60s staying in a caravan at Winkups caravan site and sometimes in a flatlet opposite the Floral Hall in Rhyl."

Phil Harrison: "Rhyl staying in a flatlet opposite the Botanical Gardens. Glorious days spent on the beach. The sun always seemed to shine in the 60s."

Hilary Brown: "Rhyl first staying in a caravan at Winkups Caravan Park, then stayed at a boarding house near to the Rhyl Fair (house was just behind the model village). Happy days."

Julie Edge: "Rhyl, best holidays spent with family."

Carol Brown: "Happy holidays at Winkups! Does anyone remember Evans cafe in the centre of Rhyl? There was a bakery downstairs and there was always a queue for a table, all the way up the stairs. Loved it."

Graham Jones: "Must have stayed in most of the caravan parks as a child in the 60s! Oakfield Park, Palins, Winkups, Happy Days, and further up Towyn - past the Black Cat amusements - down Sandbank Road and Gaingc Road was Edwards and then Madeleys caravan parks."

But sometimes people did go further afield...
