MORE than 600 thirsty customers will sample 40 craft beers, lagers, ciders and ales at Denbigh Beer Festival.

Denbigh’s historic Town Hall will again play host to the 18th Denbigh Beer Festival on Saturday, September 16, with organisers promising the 2023 event will be the best yet.

The festival, run by Denbigh Round Table, is building on the success of previous years and as well as those beers from across Wales with a few guest beers from further afield thrown in. It will also feature locally-produced ciders and prosecco for those who prefer grape – and apple - to grain.

The event is expected to raise more than £9,000 for charities and good causes.

Gerallt Jones, Chair of Denbigh Round Table, said: “The beer festival is by far our biggest fundraiser, it’s such a great event that brings the community together and 100 per cent of the money raised from the day is put back into local charities and good causes.”

Mr Jones also stated that Denbigh round table are happy to receive requests for charitable donations from charities, organisations and individuals.

The festival is now an established event on many ale lovers’ calendars and as the event has grown in popularity so has the demands of organising it.

Richard Wells, Beer Festival organiser, said: “The event is now so popular we have had to increase the amount of cider and beer to keep up with demand.

“We have carefully selected beers from across Wales, from Bragdy Mona in Anglesey, to Tiny Rebel in Newport. We also host CAMRA Champion beers from further afield including CAMRA's County, Regional & National Winner, Beer of Britain 2023: Gold Medal Winner Cask Dead Man's Fist (a smoked porter with black pepper) from Chapter Brewing. Our large range of session and imperial casks include Welsh Stouts, traditional red ales, golden ales, bitters and a suite of pale ale styles.

"Our cold kegs include craft lagers from three separate North Wales breweries, and we are pleased to present the largest range of ciders in our 18 year history."

This year’s line-up includes comedian Sarah Davies, up-and coming talent Osian Gierke, Denbigh’s own Keenan Jones and headlining the event are Ether, a popular band who are well known in the music scene in and around Denbigh and perform a mixture of originals and covers.

Richard said: “We keep tweaking the format each year to continuously improve and keep the festival fresh and the feedback we receive is that the festival has become a highlight in the Vale of Clwyd social calendar.

“This year as well as adding a comedian to the entertainment line-up, we will return to (safety) glass festival glasses and have eco-friendly bio-degradable beer tokens. Food during the event will be available from ‘Lovage and Rosemary’ and ‘Pigging Marvellous’.“

According to the organisers the extra effort going into this year has increased the cost of the event but securing a record-breaking 75 sponsors this year has kept the taps running.

Richard said: “The event needs a lot of funding and we are so lucky to have generous sponsors mostly from the local area who support us year after year.”

“We simply couldn’t run the event without their support and we are so thankful to them and we hope that the publicity the event attracts will help them in return.

“Our main sponsor for this year is Artisan Windows of Denbigh and we are delighted for their continuing loyalty in what will be their 18th year as main sponsors.”
