ABOUT 90 people attended a silent vigil on St Peter’s Square, Ruthin, last week in what many believed to be the biggest public protest gathering seen in the town.

The demonstration, calling for peace in Gaza, Israel and the West Bank was organized by the Colwyn Bay Amnesty Group, which covers much of North Wales, with support from Christian Aid.

The names of the 12,000 children killed since October 7, 2023 were listed and people were asked to take away a piece of paper with one of the names on it, bringing home the horror of the crisis.

The vigil was such a success that some people called for it to be repeated in a month’s time and that is being considered.
