AN admired community member is about to celebrate a special milestone.
On Sunday, March 24 a treasured Llangollen resident will be celebrating her 100th birthday.
Currently residing at the Old Vicarage care home, Joan Fell has played a big part in the Llangollen community over the years and is truly deserving of a wonderful birthday celebration with her nearest and dearest.
After joining the forces at just 17-years-old, Joan went on to be a part of the Land Army in Gloucestershire.
In 1948 she got married to husband Ken and the pair lived happily in Llangollen where she worked in the library, now known as the museum. It was there her father-in-law owned what was then named the 'Jenny Jones' hotel.
Once her three children Stephen, Debbie and Laura had flown the nest, Joan joined the Womens Institute which she remains a member of today. She also has five grandchildren who she loves dearly.
Joan has always been a supportive and wonderful friend to those who know her.
At aged 97, she became a bridesmaid to Amelia who is the current manger at The Old Vicarage where she currently resides.
During COVID, Joan contributed to a book titled 'Lockdown Legends.' Created by Fiona Collins, the book focuses on the life stories of residents at the care home in their own words.
She proudly remains a huge part of the Llangollen community and felt honoured to be invited to turn on the Christmas lights last year.
In her spare time Joan enjoys arranging flowers despite finding it "fiddly" and appreciates the beauty of nature. Her calm and positive influence has touched the hearts of many.
Care home employee Natasha said: "Joan is loved by so many and we are inviting the community to join us for a garden party on March 30 at The Old Vicarage.
"This will give friends and family members the chance to spend the day with Joan on her special day."
When asked what her words of wisdom to a long and happy life, Joan replied "Stay happy to live long."
The care home has been a family run in the heart of Llangollen for over 30-years and truly makes the world of difference to people like Joan and her family.
We are wishing Joan many happy returns on her special day.
