RUGBY clubs across North Wales are mourning the loss of two young players who tragically died in a road traffic collision. 

Dafydd Hûw Craven-Jones, 18, and Morgan Jones, 17, from Wrexham, sadly died following a collision in Staffordshire on Saturday (May 25).

They both played for Wrexham Rugby club, which paid the following tribute: "We have huge sadness and a deep sense of loss at the passing of Dafydd and Morgan. They both played at Wrexham through the Mini and Junior Teams and had made their mark in the Youth Team.

"They were good friends on and off the field of play and the void they leave will not be filled."

Following the tragic news, rugby clubs across North Wales and the North West sent messages of condolences, love and support to Wrexham Rugby Club. 

Chester RUFC said: "Our deepest condolences on the loss of your youth players in such tragic circumstances. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families and your members at this time. From all at Chester RUFC."

Ruthin Rugby Club said: "Deepest condolences from all at Clwb Rygbi Rhuthun, our thoughts are with their families and friends and all of Wrexham Rugby Club."

Abergele Rugby Club said: "Terrible news. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to their families, friends, and the entire Wrexham rugby community during this difficult time."

Messages of condolence were also sent by Mold, Shotton Steel, Rhyl & District, Nant Conwy, Oswestry Rugby Club, Bangor, Whitchurch, Colwyn Bay,  Llandudno and Denbigh rugby clubs, as well as clubs in Mid and South Wales.

Following the outpouring of grief and support, Wrexham Rugby Club said on Facebook: "The club has been overwhelmed by the kind messages of support from everyone who knew them and from all the rugby clubs in North Wales and further afield.

"Our thoughts are now with the families at this heartbreaking time and we send our heartfelt condolences."

Staffordshire Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the collision. The teenagers were travelling on the Cannock Road, Penkridge, in a Ford Ka.

They were called just before midnight to reports of a collision and arrived a short time later. Two 17-year-old girls are still in hospital, one in a critical condition.
